Who We Are

In the spring of 2020, the Yellow Springs Environmental Commission, Tecumseh Land Trust, Agraria and the Glen Helen Association joined in a Wildlife Habitat team effort and initiated a call to action to the citizens of Yellow Springs to become a certified National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat Community.

Creating a Wildlife Habitat on your own property is easier than you think! By adding native plants, water, and shelter to our yards and gardens we create healthy ecosystems for wildlife and people. By doing so we extend wildlife habitat throughout the Village, creating pollinator corridors and more natural, sustainable landscapes.

With the Wildlife Habitat team’s leadership and amazing community participation, certification requirements were completed in record time, seven months, and during a pandemic! If you are not yet part of this community movement, join us! Check out steps you can take to join over 120 NWF "Garden for Wildlife" certified properties in Yellow Springs and Miami Township, Ohio.

As of 2024, we are one of only three certified communities in Ohio with NWF and among 167 communities across the U.S.

The Village of Yellow Springs

The Yellow Springs Environmental Commission (EC) is a commission of the Yellow Springs Village Council. The commission is composed of community members who volunteer their time to advise Village Government on issues relating to the environment and engage in projects and service to promoteenvironmental understanding and integrity in Yellow Springs and Miami Township.

The Agraria Center for Regenerative Practice

Agraria is Ohio’s first Center for Regenerative Agriculture located in Yellow Springs, Ohio. We focus on regenerative land use that supports the expansion of our regional food system and serves as a platform for building community resilience.

Protects over 31,000 acres of farmland, prime soil, water and natural areas including the Glass Farm Wetland Conservation Area, Glen Helen Nature Preserve and Agraria, in Clark and Greene counties and surrounding areas.

The Glen Helen Association is the proud owner, steward, and operator, of the region’s largest and most visited private nature preserve, Glen Helen. Amidst a backdrop of native trees, wildlife, and gently flowing spring waters, Glen Helen provides environmental education to children and adults, and has been a meeting place for members of the community and various groups and for those who just need a place of natural beauty to relax outside of the hustle and bustle of life.
