The Mayors' Monarch Pledge

Message from Mayor Pam:

Welcome to the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge page on our YS Wildlife Habitat Community website. The purpose of this page is to provide our community with information about both the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge AND the monarch butterfly.

My plan is to keep the page updated with interesting information regarding the monarch and other pollinators. Did you know, for example, that over one-third of the world’s food crops depends on animal pollinators to reproduce? One out of every 3 bites of food we eat exists because of the likes of bees, butterflies and moths, birds and bats, beetles and other insects, and the pollinators are in trouble.
The National Wildlife Federation wants to help spread the word about the precipitous decline of—in this case—the monarch butterfly, an iconic species whose population has decreased over 90% in recent years.

You can read about the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge,

which I took in February of this year, here.

Thanks for reading and learning more,

Mayor Pam
